Swaka chief hai dapp

The Times of Zambia
Thursday, July 31, 2003

THE child aid charity, Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) has been commended for its work in promoting high standards of hygiene among the villagers in Mkushi district.

Chief Chitina of the Swaka said yesterday he was highly impressed with the activities of DAPP which was promoting issues of health awareness among the community in the area.

Addressing hundreds of his subjects at Munsakamba and Mishingo villages over the weekend, the chief said DAPP child aid had done a commendable job in educating people on hygiene as could be evidenced by the clean surroundings and the provision of water and sanitation in many villages.

He said the development had greatly helped reduced incidences of malaria, diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases in the area.

The chiefs also lauded the neighbourhood health committee for jointly working together with DAPP in the promotion of health care among the people in the area.

He urged the NGO not to relent in educating the rural masses on the dangers of HIV/AIDS, encouraging them to go for voluntary counselling and testing and to avoid unprotected sex at all costs.--Zana/ZIS
