Green World Recycling Ltd
One
of several Tvind used-clothes recycling companies in the UK, started
after the original venture, Humana UK, was closed down by the Charity
Commission. The others are Planet Aid, and, now, College Aid.
Green World claims to collect for a huge programme of environmental work. These claims have been exposed as hollow - probably fraudulent - in newspaper articles and research by Tvind Alert. In fact, we believe donated clothes are sold to offshore Tvind companies and then to Eastern Europe, with most of the profits going to the Teachers Group.
Green World probably collects clothes worth hundreds of thousands of pounds - perhaps up to 1 million - a year. It makes extravagant claims on its bins about the 'environmental projects' it supposedly finances. We believe the money goes to the Teachers Group.
In 2000, Tvind Alert was approached by Green World's then general manager, Edward Dyson, a wistleblower with no links to either Tvind or the Teachers Group. Mr Dyson said he was suspicious of the company and his Danish employers and did not believe money was going to charity. He has since left the company.
Documents quickly showed that Green World is a Tvind front company, with financial links to offshore companies in Gibraltar and clothes traders in eastern Europe.
Repeated calls to southern Africa failed to confirm the existence of any of the supposed 'game parks' and environmental projects. Instead, the trail led to a financial trust set up by the Teachers Group at an accommodation address in Switzerland.
In Britain, Green World is run by Torben Soe, a former student of Tvind who joined the Teachers Group in the 70s-80s. His wife Birgit Soe runs Planet Aid UK.
