New
Dutch government will investigate Humana
- call for Europe-wide inquiry
Danish newspapers, 18th July 2002
According to Danish newspapers, especially the
"Berlingske Tidende", Tvind,
in addition to Denmark and Belgium, has also been accused in the
Netherlands for economical fraud.
from Berlingske Tidende
by Michael Bjerre
CDA, Netherland's largest party who's leader next week will be appointed
prime minister, has asked the departments for justice, internal affairs and
development to have an investigation of "Humana" started , which is
the
Dutch equivalent to the Danish UFF (Ulandshjlp fra Folk til Folk -
Development Aid from People to People).
Humana is doing the business of collecting and selling old clothes in
further 16 European countries, and CDA therefore wants to bring the
authorities of several countries together to coordinate the investigations
about Humana's activities. In the first place, the Dutch authorities should
cooperate with those from Belgium and Denmark.
In Belgium, 8 top leaders of Tvind have been accused for money laundry of 3
million euro. The court case will start 19 december, 2002. In Denmark, 7
top leaders of Tvind, including the founder Mogens Amdi Petersen, are
charged for tax fraud and embezzlement for 75 million Danish crowns.
Petersen is emprisoned in California because he refuses his extradition to
Denmark. The extradition case will start on 19 August, 2002.
The Danish police offers help to other countries because they have
collected a rather large amount of experience. International contacts
should be established via the department of justice.
The investigation in the Netherlands started after 2 TV documentations
showed that 75 percent of the income from selling old clothers did not
arrive at the Third World, but is said to be recycled back to the
Theacher's Group, Tvinds inner cercle.
