RE: RECOGNITION OF THE DNS EXAM IN ICELAND

Someone wrote to this guestbook that the DNS exam (The Teacher Training College) in Tvind is not recognized in Iceland. This is not true. I graduated from DNS in 1998 and 5 members from my class have since then got their exam recognized by the Icelandic Ministry of Education. All of us have been teaching in Iceland and we have found that our studies at DNS have prepared us very well for our job. I also know that the Ministery of Education in Norway recognizes the exam and that people from the US have had it recognized as a BA degree back home.

I will always think of the 4 years I spent at DNS as some of the best years of my life. I miss the people there, both the other students and teachers and the wealth of experiences I enjoyed during these years. We were always doing something new and exciting. I find this web full of exaggerations and lies. I have never been a member of the Teachers Group and no one ever tried to convince me to become one. I was free to leave the program at any time. If I didnt like something at the college I felt free to discuss it with my teachers. This program is very demanding, but why should everyting always be easy? I admire the TG members for daring to live their lives according to their believes and conviction, working day and night to try to make the world better. I dont see that as anything bad even if I chose to live my life differently. It's the way of cowards and liers to write nameless letters spreading dirt about others. Those of you who are considering joining the DNS or becoming volunteers in Africa or India, go and see for yourselves. Those programs are different from other programs and those who are different have always been persecuted. The only way to find out if this is something good for you is to go there and check it out. Why is it that you are lying?

M, why don't you read some of the articles by some of the world's mosty respected newspapers that can be found on this site? Why do you think it is that independant media has never published ONE positive article about Tvind? Don't they KNOW that your way is the only way and everyone else is wrong? sheeseh... p

It is very interesting but also disturbing to read comments of people who have no clue what Tvind is about! I particularly would like to mention the issue of admission criteria and a curriculum. I shall say that in our societies we have far too many schools which excessively emphasise strict, brought from elitarian institutions, qualifications by what those schools replicate unfair class-relations. What is wrong with trying to break away from those harmful practices and enrolling "hard working people" ? And what is wrong with offering the opportunity of earning for studies at the school? In Britain for instance, money is a top issue when choosing your education (and social class at the same time!). If you have it, the choice is yours, if you do not have it, you are doomed to a school which is not necessarily your cup of tea. Actually, what admission criteria do you propose for working in Africa? PhD or extramurral courses. If you had the chance to obtain it - lucky you. If not - go on with your socially prede stained fate... And the curriculum... Today, one is so alienated that cannot see the possibility of designing his own education. How easy and how borring it is to follow a standarised, and imposed by those in power - the elite, curriculum. Too much freedom for someone inborn and profoundly assimilated into the prevailing capitalist structures can be suffocating. Let us all try to see beyond what we are surrounded. ex-student. M.

This website or should I say WEB-SHITE - is nothing but brainwashing from the media!! Can I assure you that joining DNS or any organisation associated with Tvind is completely voluntary! It is not forced upon anyone!! It is for people who want to do something different and worthwhile with their lives! The only thing that comes out of Tvind is good! What is so wrong with helping the less fortunate in the third world ? As for the burning question of finances and fees! All income and expenditure is accounted for ! each team has an accountant and no money goes amiss- all money is then checked by an Outsider!! Hello, I am a student at a California Community Collge which has recently been infiltrated by CCTG propaganda. I believe it is very misfortunate that this organization would exploit the young of today, while misleading the public and peoples of neighboring countries.

I was able to have an oppurtunity to travel to Africa last summer, with a non profit called BRIDGES.(Building International Dialogues through Grassroot Exchange) and I became interested in Campus TG as a vessel to return and continue my work. However as I began to contact this organization I realized that there were serious pieces missing from the puzzle.

The first warning sign that there was something amiss was when I asked for the criteria for the applicants. The response I recieved was that it was open to "Everone who is a hardworker" that concerned me especially since it is essential to understand the pretenses in which one would choose to participate in such venture. Traveling to India, or Africa is a big deal, and not just anyone is qualified to sustain such an adventure.

When asking them about there curriculum, I recieved a vague response. They said that the previous participants would be giving language preparation courses, and there would be some focus on global economics. When asking them as to there focus, or stance, they would give no further information. Educating people is one thing, and indoctrinating is another. It worries me that this organization taking students to Africa is not more open about how they will be training there participants.

They also mentioned the fundraising, saying that you will be required to go out into the streets and ask for money. You would think that an organization that is so focused on action, would encourage fundraisers that encourage the support of the community. THey also mentioned the website www.netup.org, which has sites in California, the East COast, and In Holland. The website states that they are working with Humana- People to people, and the participants can fundraise all of there money in as little as three weeks. It seems like an easy solution, however gives no information as to the projects that the particpants would take part in. Furthermore it charges each person $250.00(US) activation fee(Sketchy!!) In many ways this does not make sense, economically or otherwise. Why would participants have to pay a fee to RAISE money??

I am very glad that this community based concern site is up. CCTG appears as a exciting and noble cause. However internally it is disorganized, misleading, vague, and distructive.

Volunteering Internationally is not a one way street, and is more then good intentions, it takes the help of others. Unforturantly, due to the neglect and underrepresentation of developing countries, there is much work, and few resources.

Many organizations which attempt projects abroad encounter difficulties and oppositions both locally and internationally.

CCTG is a bottom feeder, feeding upon vulnerable organizations, and extracting money from people who genuinly want to help. It is frustrating that organizations like this cause individuals to shy away from assisting in the international realm. Hopefully this organization will be exposed in more then one way, and the other more insightful and meaningful organizations will be brought to light.

I was with Tvind for one year at Ulfborg and various of the other schools in Denmark. I went through the fundraising and life within Tvind like so many others Reading this site with fascination brings me to write a few short words. By the way, I have to admit that this whole thing is a LOT!!! bigger than I at first thought I will say this: Around about the year 1000, many changes took place within the various parts of what is now Europe. In Scandinavia, the population had grown to the point where dispersal became a necessity. The Vikings were born and rapidly ascerted themselves as strong leaders,farmers and partisans not to forget warriors amongst the peoples of Europe, Asia and Africa.Since this time, no other group of people have acheived this! My point is that Amdi Petersson and all the other Danes who are Tvind are simply a reminder of this awesome race.They may be stupid but they sure aint dumb! I saw people crushed like ants by them, I saw them organise activities which would turn the stomach of many a common man,I went hungry and tired in the name of progress, I was told the stories of previous survivors and failures to the Tvind process,but in the end,I got my money back and I did'nt go on the bus to India and all I can say is Hi to the friends I made(you know who you are), to the Tvind teachers( Steen,Benny,Anna Hoas,Anders-(yes I still snore loudly!,I bet you all visit this site regularly!) and finish by saying that I went back and lived in Denmark with my lovely wife(who I met at Tvind) for two years as I had so enjoyed my stay! One last thought- can any one person amongst us say in all honesty that Tvind is a danger to any one of us any more than any one of us is a danger to ourselves? We are living in a world which keeps us in our places with the weapons of inertia,fear and dissarray- surely any one who has strength left will survive and live another day-think on! Maybe when the brainwashing effect goes away you could be a little more specific and convincing. Few days ago we met in Holsten. I don`t know what is Your opinion about this info meeting. Leaving Holsten I`ve thought that everything was OK. Five hours later I knew already that there was something wrong. I`m writing to all of You because I would like to know Your opinion. Personally I`m sure that we were manipulated since the very begining. In a fact everything was a perfect manipulation. Do You remember the movie "The Sting"? I didn`t watch this anti-Tvind www site. My opinion is based only on that what we have seen and heard. I`m ashame that I played ping-pong instead of thinking. I felt good, safely, I couldn`t ever imagine such horrible brain wash. I was a student in Tvind for 4 years and I do not agree with the statements saying that students are pressed. Everyone is welcomne to leave at any time, without any problem. Moreover, I have to say that I went to work to Africa to work with ADPP and I found the programme useful and good for the local popultaion. Today, I am out of the Tvind system, but I will always appreciate what I learnt and experienced during my Tvind years!

Nice to hear the Danish police have raided the Tvind headquarters,prehaps now the truth will be out even more.Having said that the vast sums swindled will probably make it harder to trace after all thats why places like the Cayaman Islands exist but its good news none the less.

At 9.00AM this morning, Danish police launched a simultaneous raid against several of the schools in Denmark as well as the headquarters in Grindsted. The aim of the operation is to find evidence for alleged tax fraud carried out by the organization, and for cases against Mogens Amdi petersen and Poul Joergensen.

Please Please Please remember what little good these organisations may do is grossly outweighed by the fact that the lions share of money generated is kept in the hands of so few and benefits those few.Why all the secrecy over publishing accounts and the like?By joining these cowboys you are generating wealth for the elite core of this organisation not for the poor of the developing world. Dear Parents and everyone reading this website.

I would like to let you know that I have been a member of the Techers Group for many years and I am no longer a member. But I write to this website because there are lots of disturbing accuscations. I was never kept away from my family, neither did I had to sleep with Ambi Petersen. These people have just chosen to live their lives this way and let them. Now I am back in the husstle and busstle of the western world I now spend my money differently. Why do you have bank accounts or give 10% of your salaries to church when in the TG we do what we want with our money investments,do you not buy bonds for your children etc.

I had the opportunity to work along with many other NGO's and people locally in Africa and I know that our work is well appreciated. Why then did Humana win the UN AGFUND award October 2000 if there were doubts about this organisation.

If you are thinking of joing one of the teams I say do it I am no longer with Humana but the experiences were great. What no one mention about is the stipend given to volunteers while on the projects and the care the organisation takes of you when you are ill. I love Africa and the people!!!

I have been a volunteer at the DRH Sydsjelland in 1997 and after my training worked in Africa. My experiences in Africa on the project was great and also in training with us in Denmark were Africans who worked on the projects. I may have moved on but still get letters from the people whose lives I have touched and the others who worked with me in Africa.

It is often quite easy to sit in the first world and make comments and criticisims about development work in the 3rd world but how many of you actually done something about it. I also had the privelidge to visit the IICD MA the school in the USA and met with great people, graduate students and professional people, your article in the Boston Magazine stated that the individuals at the school is brainwashed; I really don't think it is that easy to brain wash Americans, and all the people I met there were very sane.

I think that it is time to move on and leave people to make their own choices and think of the lives of the people that will be affected in Africa, India and Central America. I would be happy to know that more volunteers are going abroad.

I am a former volunteer with IICD-MA. I had a solid preparation period and an eye-opening experience abroad- not about TVID, but about the nation that I was working in, the people that I was working for, and global development issues- just what I wanted to learn about.

There are people on the staff who are part of TG and people who are not. They work together to run the school and to teach about development issues. While I was there, two staff members left for graduate school, one was a member of TG and one was not, both were sad to leave but left with new things on the horizon which were fully supported by the director, the rest of the staff and the volunteers.

This program is a good choice for anyone who wants to see the world, work towards real change and has the motivation to do so.

I voluntered at a school in Denmark a few years ago and decided after 6 or so months that the things I had managed to find out about the organisation left me no option but to get out. I had met some really great people there, some of the students in my group were fantastic people and although a few years younger than me they took me under their wing. Some of the students were from families of refugees in Denmark and seemed to imply that because their Danish wasnt quite up to scratch they had problems being accepted at mainstream Danish schools and had been "dumped" at Tvind schools.These students were highly intelligent and I could well belive their stories. Some of the Danish students also seemed to imply they had been placed there too for being a little too lively in there old schools and some had choosen to be there. The vast majority were clever articulate people and all held Tvind in great distain. From them I learnt a little of this money swindling venture. I know they gained a certain amount of benefit at a certain level but control of them as a collective was the order of the day. There was also a Travelling High School on the grounds and some of the students here became good friends. I was very good friends with a swedish person my own age and any free time we had we hung out together. One of the Danish students who had been there for over a year at that stage warned me to be careful and that if the teachers found out I may be sat in the middle of a circle with them pressurizing me not to form close relations with anyone. He also told me of some of thier questionable fund raising scams and off shore accounts and the like. Fotunately within 48 hours of arrivingin Denmark I had been warned by a passer by to watch out for myself and to get out of Tvind. What I saw from the beginning I didnt like, at first I thought they were right minded socalists who first aim was to benefit the students in thier care and to carry out good work in the developing world but the more I found out the less this seemed to be the over riding principle.Money has corrupted this organ

I'm not a TVIND-person but I've worked in the system in Denmark. I believe that TVIND is all about getting money and the interrest in other people is not the main thing for them. I know that some of the workers really do have good intentions but they are absolutely blind to the fact that most TVIND-projects are a scam and that somebody gets a lot of money in bank-accounts in Scwitzerland. I've personally witnessed many absurd things within the system and I think that most of the workers are incredible naive. The bosses know exactly what they are doing but just don't mind what the rest of society thinks. They constantly use the same excuses like - truth is always prey to persecution - and stuff like that. I have many examples on how they cheat the state of a lot of money and neglect the people they are supposed to help. I'm not easily shaken but in this case I'm really surprised and angry about the fact that this can happen.

To Whom It May Concern:

A Reference for Tomas and Ruth During the time between February 1998 and April 1999 I was a participant in the development instructor course run by the One World Volunteer Institute, where Tomas was the Headmaster and Ruth was a fellow participant and then teacher. I joined the course to broaden my horizons and try out something new and interesting, and that was exactly what I did. The course was intense and invigourating, stimulating you to use all of your abilities, developing them as far as you could and finding new ones that you hadnt realised were there. The activities were diverse so that there was something there for everyone and always something new to tryout, there was also a lot of flexability to the activities to allow the students to mold their own education to a degree.

I found Tomass leadership and the support and help from Ruth and the other teachers at the school inspirational, the work and thought that went into forming the course and making it work was much more than any other school I have been to or heard about. The people are there because they believe in what they are doing and enjoy it, that in itself is admirable and stimulates the students to do their best also. The results are obviously successful from the amount of work and achievements that occur during the development work in Africa and other countries where the students go. I enjoyed every bit of my experiences and believe I have grown considerably as a person and have come to realise a lot more is possible in life than I did before.

I hope that the new school run by Tomas and Ruth is as or even more successful, as I have no doubt it will be, they are both dynamic and able people who can make any goal attainable.

Did you know that if you say "Amdi Petersen" backwards three times, that he will appear!

I'm sure that there is much truth in the stuff you are writing and i'm also not so happy on a School like that but if you really hate Tvind as much as that then come with some better exampels. I think that you exaggerate a bit but else i have your opinion.

I know the people who have started the Campus California TG, Tomas and Ruth. They are both from The One World Volunteer Institute in Norway. Tomas was the Headmaster in OWVI and Ruth was a student, turned teacher, turned Tomas' girlfriend. I was a participant there in 98-99. This California campus is a joke. The two of them know nothing about the environment and have never been environmental advocates. This idea is an easy sell in Northern California, where real people who live there fight for protection of their land. Tomas and Ruth show up not for the same reasons... they may claim to have compassion for the area and the struggles there, but the reality is different. Tomas is a lying, coniving, evil man. But then again, if memory serves me right... he was brought into the TG at a very early age... something like 16. Has he ever taken a step out to see what he has done with his life? Can he look at himself and be proud? Well this is a separate issue... Just want people to know a little more about the California Campus and the people running the show.

Hi, I am currently working for a tvind school as a volunteer and I am enjoying my work and feel it is very worthwhile, but in september 2000 I felt very differently, I was working in an area called Helsingor and the treatment I recieved there was disgusting. I was there for one month without anyone speaking to me unless it was to tell me what my next task was, it was clear that the TG had no respect for me or my boundries, I was only there as cheap labour and to do the jobs no one else would do.I then asked for a transfer to another school (because the head master called me an incompetent bitch) but it was made clear to me that if I wanted a new school I would have to try harder, in other words they felt it was my fault that it hadn't worked out, not the fact that I was expected to work 15 hours a day without so much as a coffe break. But I am glad to say that I am now in a school were I am valued as part of the teaching team and I have also been given a larger salary as a thankyou for my extra effort. I would also like to add that I think it is very interesting that I was allowed to work with these special children without so much as a reference or a police check!!!! I am not saying tvind is either bad or good but if they have nothing to hide why was I not told about tvind when I was interviewed for the job???? It seems to be the case that DAPP/Tvind is close to President Mugabe of Zimbabwe. In fact, Robert Mugabe has given Tvind a lot of support. He must continue to do so as DAPP are 'white farmers'....

It would be very interesting to know what DAPP's view is on the brutal one-party thuggery of Mr Mugabe's current politics.

Do you think if (when?) Mr Mugabe is toppled, that Tvind would be allowed to stay in the country?

the problem and reason not more people stand up against HUMANA is that they DO make a very SMALL contribution, not biggerthan the actual physical labor put out by the hard working well intended actions of many volunteers. But the fact remains..... Some people are getting rich off of naive volunteers... the "goals" or end does not justify the means. All this is... is a private company profitting!!!! IT IS NOT A NON-PROFIT ORGANISATION.

Keep up the good work they must some how be stopped!
