I dont know if its just me, but it seems that this whole debate has run its course. In my limited experience of Humana/TG some people love them, others hate but isn't that the way it is with most organisations? The TG have done things of which no one approves, but they have also done alot of good. I have visited some of their Development projects (not just in Africa), spoken with TG members of varying membership levels & found most of them to be good & decent people. My point is this. All organisations have their good & bad sides,Humana/TG are no different. Demonising "Tvind" & its members is bound to be counter-productive when its done in the manner of Tind alert.....that is in the sensationalised way of tabloid news papers, or gutter press. If we are to have a serious debate about the validity of the Teachers group & its organisations this web site will only serve to cloud the issue. There's definitely a problem here. If you look at the contribution of Sara (former IICD-MI member volunteer) below and compare it with other accounts of experiences at the same institution there is an almost impossibly divergent range of views. Can't we just accept then that people DO see things differently, and DO experience things differently, and therefore it's impossible to make a 'moral' judgement about how people should react to their Tvind/TG experience. Some people who write on this guestbook are so judgemental and willing only to allow people to see things and experience things as THEY see and experience them. Let's diversify a bit. Is the recent exchange between P.D. from TG and the unnamed correspondent finished? There was some good debate at the beginning but then it degenerated. This site needs correcting. The Bustrup school centre on the map is wrongly located. It should be more inland and further north, equidistant from the towns of Struer and Skive. 'Efterskole' does not equate to 'Small School'. The efterskoles are regular day and boarding schools, though some 'maladjusted' students may be admitted. The small schools are exclusively for 'maladjusted' students. There are a couple of small schools in the vicinity of Bustrup efterskole. I belive the efterskole there is an International Efterskole. By the way, Bustrup is not 'staffed by Tvind volunteers'. It is run by long term TG members, employed staff and occasional volunteers. It's not correct to give the impression that your piece gives. Sorry if I'm being pedantic but it's important to be correct and fair. The DRH at Bustrup is operational.

Former TG member: Thank you for your valuable contribution. You have made some important points. I don't think Amdi's incarceration will be an obstacle to the optimum function of the TG. I don't see any of the 'regret' that you describe but a certain amount of 'devolution' to 'each of their schools or Tvind businesses' might be a natural, desirable and positive move forward in a Post-Amdi environment. I don't believe there is any negative opinion in the TG about:

a. Amdi 'sitting in a US jail' rather than a Danish one, though it may well work out worse for him there than it would have done in Denmark. b. That Amdi is abusing 'all the money we have collected for better purposes.' I have gathered no sense that 'even the most hard core TvindTGmembers will have a feeling that this is what is happening.'

I share your 'hope that all the GOOD things we also did in the TG can now, finally, get a chance of surviving' but it is not about 'breaking away from Amdi's iron grip' or 'taking over all that rightly belongs to them.' This will be done in a way that is acceptable to the broad TG members as well as the inner circle, and I am confident that it will be the inner circle that initiates such a move. On a particular point I admit that you are correct. The TG are very bad on the radio and TV, and yes, they 'do not have proper contact anymore with modern society.' It's a fundamental mistake and a difficult one to rectify now. Of course it was wrong to abandon the wider world and impose a sort of self-exile within society and it has been the root of many problems since. It will require an enormous leap of faith on the part of leadership and individual TG members to turn this around, face the media, the education and development communities and the wider world in general and present a more transparent, cooperative face. I am still not sure how deep my 'knowledge' goes. If we take the definition offered by the Holstebro Police in the court documents I was only level four, a TG member working as a teacher at a school in Denmark. But I had a lot of dicussions with others in more leading roles 'with regard to the Tvind philosophy and actions.' Perhaps you are right, I may not have 'experienced more than perhaps a fraction of the TG life.' My involvement was for a few years only, but I have remained in touch. I have had some important negative experiences too about how the TG is run, leadership style, decision making etc and though I may not 'have been close to Amdi's power like [you] long term members have been', I have gleaned some important insights. The negative experiences that I have had are best discussed with the TG directly, because then there is the possibility of understanding and change, because a change in direction is also possible within the TG. Perhaps it's time for Tvindalert to pack up and go home. After all, the teachers' group is not finished, even if Amdi is sent down. Far from it. Let's be reasonable. The Tvindalert campaign must learn this: A great many people enjoy living in the common economy/common time way, and thousands of Danish young people and people living in developing countries have benefitted from their work. If the webmaster would like an example of how the 'standard of debate in this guest book has dropped rather recently' perhaps he should look to his own use of the term 'tvindies.' Use of such a term is patronising and stifles real debate. It reduces the argument to a spat between children in the playground, and I think we all agree that it's more important than that. IICD is NOT a fantastic place when you spend time and money, fundraise, clean, cook, ect. and find out that this project - this big plan you have for your life - doesn't even exist! The food was horrible (what food they did have there)...phones and utilities were constantly on the verge of getting shut off. Ways to get around that? Don't pay things, like insurance for students who are in Guatemala and Africa, employees, building rent (which is not a big deal since all of THAT flows back to the teachers group anyway), and on and on. You can go to Africa, Guatemala or India on your own, and it would be MUCH cheaper for you. And you wouldn't be out begging on the streets for money that actually keeps this "teachers group" going. It DOES NOT go towards any so called projects. It's great to listen to your heart, but sometimes it's more important to listen to your HEAD! BE SMART about your choices. IICD is not a good one. Go to an info weekend. ASK as many questions as possible. See if you get the run-around. Talk to the people there about what you've heard from former volunteers and teachers. It would be interesting to hear their responses. Ask them about Amdi. Ask them why their rent is so high, and why the rent that is paid is actually going BACK to a company owned by the teachers group. Ask them to show you some proof of actual projects going on. (not just some old lame pictures - they're good at that) Tell them you want current contact information from former students..from both points of view..those who did have a good experience and those who didn't. Email those students. Talk to everyone you can about everything you can think of. You will feel better that you did. Trust me!

I know that their plan to transition into a residential "small school" for Emotionally Impaired children was headed off at the pass, but does that mean that IICD is still in the business of "training" DI's, or are they on to some other form of money-making effort?

Some three weeks ago Tvind Alert suddenly received hundreds of hits from Finland. Can our Finnish friend say if there was any interesting newspaper article or TV programme about Tvind or UFF to explain it? Thanks.

To Every person who has written a negative comment on this webpage, I just wanted to clear up some things. I am not bashing you. I would just like you to find my comments down below and read them. I hope you have actually made the effort to read the comments written by other people before jumping to conclusions about what this site is about, and not following the story that your teacher has told you in the training schools. For those of you who don't know me, I am a past IICD-MI volunteer. In fact my team (who is still there.. and whom I still keep in touch with), is going to be leaving soon for Africa quite soon--which was where I really wanted to go. But I had to leave because of reasons beyond my control. Leaving an organization that you know is morally and ethically wrong is incredibly hard because this organization seems so fantastic on the outside. Because you have people telling you what you want and need to hear. Because of the people you meet--your fellow volunteers who are just as idealistic and fantastic as you are. It is NOT the members of the organization that I object too or dislike. In fact I have to admit that I still like as a person the director of IICD, because she is doing something that she completely believes in. What I don't like is the Organization itself. The Head Honchos who know EXACTLY what and where the money goes (and it isn't into the projects, let me tell you that). This organization has sucked out my ideals. I tried to climb back up the ladder and get the Pulitzer Winner Globe and Mail Writer Victor Malerek to do a story on the Guatemala team (he had come to my house and interviewed all of us, taken our picture, was going to do a personal level of what really happens at the schools, and the emotions you are put through), but he-- the one who preached to us about how not to give up our ideals.. and that he is a fighter for what's right.. curled up into a ball and canned the story the day the story (in my point of view.. a bad one, one that really doesn't explain what Humana People to People is capable of) covered the front page of the rival newspaper--the Toronto Star. So from that day forward I dropped my campaign to educate others about IICD, and Humana People to People, I also stopped visiting this site. I spent the next month and half trying to get my life in order.. finding a job, planning what I was going to do in September. I even tried for other volunteer organizations, but they were a no-go.. either too expensive, or the recuitment for 2002 had already been done. But I have discovered this week a fantastic Canadian Volunteer Organization called CUSO. I unfortunately will not be able to go for it this year, as I have made plans for myself for the next year already, but I am planning to look into it seriously for the year after. For any Canadian who is feeling stuck and low because they feel like they can't find a better organization than Humana People to People, check out CUSO (website: www.cuso.org). It is this organization that has lifted my spirits. That has made me think that I may still be able to carry out my dreams of becoming an overseas volunteer. Or buy the book "How to live out your dreams of becoming an overseas volunteer" and discover many many other organizations which are rated and investigated by non-biased authors. If you don't know who I am, please read my story and comments below.. you may have to scroll down a lot.. it is after all those polish comments... it has been a long time since I was last here. yet nothing has changed. Humana is still running, IICD-MI had its grand opening of the new school last weekend.... and people are still getting exploited... though I do hear from people that less and less people are getting recruited by my area. I think the Tvind Teachers Group does a lot of good, for example the refugee centre in Groot Deunk, Holland, which I visited a number of times in the late eighties and early nineties. Why don't some of the sceptics and critics out there think about that for a change?

Bardzo ciekawa jestem, jak tam w milej Polsce Wam zycie uplywa. Szkoda ze nie moglam sie z Wami nalezycie pozegnac.

Co dokladnie mowia, nie wiem, bo wyjechalismy na fundraising dzien pozniej i nie slyszalam dluzszych wypowiedzi. Raz tylko Anna LAusen powidziala na porannym zgromadzenie (heh), ze mysli, ze tak jest dla Was lepiej, wytlumazyla wszystkim Wasze problemy z wiza i powiedziala, ze ma nadzieje, ze w anglii bedzie mieli wiecej szczescia. Czyli raczej wygladalo to pozytywnie.

Ja jestem teraz na fundraisingu w sztokholmie - najlepsze jest to, ze nie mamy akomodacji, nie mamy pieniedzy (musielismy kupic bilety na pociag, bo w szwecji podobnoz jazda stopem jest zabroniona, a poza tym ludziom ktorzy ze mna tu przyjechali nieco odbija w tym kierunku) i jeszcze nie moge nikogo spotkac, bo dwojka z nich (cyril i jaakko) nie przyszla na meeting, na ktory sie umowilismy, a reszta ma przyjechac do sztokholmu jakims niewidzialnym autobusem (pytalam na dworcu autobusowym, sprawdzalam w rozkladach jazdy i wyglada na to, ze owy autobus nie istnieje - co zreszta nie dziwi mnie specjalnie, bo siedza juz w malmo od wczorajszego wieczora przegapiajac wszystkie kolejne polaczenia, heh).

Podczas naszej niewolniczej pracy w Goeteborgu w UFF CENTER SORTING poznaliśmy Polkę ,ktra też przyjechała tam pracować ale po pierwszym dniu pobytu opowiedziała nam,że nie przyjechała tu po to by być wolontariuszką ale musiała uciekać z domu bo przespała się z najlepszym przyjacielem jej narzeczonego i zobaczyła ogłoszenie w prasie była na infomitingu i na wszystkie warunki jakie jej zaproponowała ta sekta zgodziła się. Zachowywała się dziwnie spokojnie,często siedziała sama w kuchni i patrzyła na sufit.Miała problemy ze swoją psychiką i widać było,że jest w innym świecie. My nie wiemy jakie warunki z nią ustalano bo każdy chętny do pracy dla tej sekty ma indywidualne rozmowy.

W pierwszym dniu pracy w UFF przypadkiem zobaczyłem jak owa Anka vel Marta kradnie bluzkę damską i stanik i dość ostro zwrciłem jej uwagę by tego nie robiła bo my Polacy też tu pracujemy i co sobie o nas pomyślą inni ludzie.

Od tego dnia owa Anka vel Marta przestała się do mnie odzywać. My pracę zakończyliśmy po około trzech tygodniach od poznania tej osoby. Jest to dziewczyna ,ktra zachowaniem swoim przypomina 5 letnie dziecko a ma około 22 lat.

O naszych problemach w Tvind i Bogence tylko słyszała z ust sekciarzy bo nie była razem z nami tam i nie widziała co myśmy przeszli a lodwkę z Tvind zamykaną na kłdkę mamy na zdjęciu i wiele innych atrakcji tej sekty o ktrej Anka vel Marta jeszcze nie wie.
