Tvind Alert

The HQ at Shamva

A showpiece?

[Henry's story]

In the bush outside Harare, on one of Tvind's estates at Shamva, is the 'world headquarters' of Humana People-to-People.  According to a former member of the Teachers' Group, Mogens Amdi Petersen once boasted that the building would be 'so big, you could see it from the moon'.

The stunning modern structure is surrounded by a game reserve and 'integrated wildlife ranching'.    There are also smallholdings where contented Africans live on 10-hectare plots..........a picture of enlightened European land management.   Or is it?

A recent visitor who is an expert on third world agriculture has contacted Tvind Alert.    He concluded that far from helping Africans, the size and management of  the smallholdings actually drove African farmers to be more dependent on Tvind.     The estate could be nothing more than a showpiece, designed to impress visiting dignitaries.      Read Henry's story.

"Humana People to People opened a new headquarters in Zimbabwe in October 1998. The opening was attended by the Zimbabwean head of state President Mugabe, ministers and other dignitaries from southern African countries. The president of Planet Aid, Inc. was present delivered a speech and greetings from people in the US."   [Humana website]

According to sceptical Tvind watchers, Humana People-to-People has moved its world headquarters from Denmark to Zimbabwe because things have got too hot for it in Europe.
