Planet Aid USA
Planet
Aid was started in the United States in about 1997 -
the north American version of Humana People-to People and UFF.
It is now operating in a lot of US states and in Canada. Its main business is collecting used clothes and running volunteering schemes. In the USA it is closely linked to Tvind's three colleges.
It's got a Wall Street corporate office address, is registered with USAID and its details, with various highly colourful accounts of the vast sums supposedly passed to foreign aid projects, appear on a number of official charity listings and websites.
In principle, like Humana and all the other Tvind charities, it is supposed to raise money and volunteers from the rich countries of the North to finance development aid projects in Africa and central America - getting cash from charity clothes recycling and many other sources of income.
In reality, as with all Tvind companies, there must be doubts about whether all of this wealth has really been used for the benefit of the poor in developing countries, or passed instead to the Teachers Group. For example, Planet Aid in Canada was recently shown to have given nothing at all to charity. more

Notes on Planet Aid's annual report, 1999
"Planet Aid joined Humana People to People in 1997" The report gives the impression that Planet Aid Inc is a charity quite separate from Tvind and Humana, that decided to 'join' it in 1997. Mikael Norling has been associated with Tvind and Humana since the early 1970s.
"Expansion has meant investing in new equipment such as containers and trucks. This has limited our short term ability to donate funds overseas but has significantly increased our capacity to generate funds and activities in the future." Any company and not-for-profit takes a while to show a surplus, but this is an excuse Tvind has used over and over again for not giving to charity - see Gaia and Humana UK
